Extrusion

Extruder

The process of cooking moistened starchy and/or proteinaceous materials together to work into the viscous, plastic-like dough is what extrusion does. The heating process and applying force on materials to push them in a specially designed opening are described as the two main steps.

Extruders

The solid and effective design of Feedtech extruders and expanders provides the opportunity to produce a wide range of products in many industries.

Where to used for?

  • Petfood
  • Animal Feed
  • Fish Feed

  • Expanded-free Productions
  • Conditioning
  • Grain

Extruders revive fish farming industry

The fish farming industry highly depends on a local fish feed producer; thus, it is both risky and expensive for local fish farmers to import fish feed. This is due to the fact roughly 70% of the operational costs of a fish farm, arise from fish feeds. It is clear that an ordinary delay in fish feeds import and delivery, means loss of the entire fish stock at the farm.

To decrease the cost of fish feed which also means decreasing the total cost, fish facilities are needed local feed producers that have the capabilities of producing high-quality fish feeds. Feed characteristics are the most important factor for some specific and special species in the industry. At Feedtech, we know the importance of pre-extrusion and post-extrusion stages in the fish feed industry to obtain the desired final product. Thus, we start the process by understanding the characteristics of raw materials and with the following steps like designing and specifying the process, we obtain the ultimate equipment for optimized extrusion.

What happens inside an extruder?

Starch granules undergo gelatinization and melting by the action of heat and moisture on hydrogen binding among tightly packed polysaccharide chains in the granule structure. Under conditions of excess water, hydrogen bindings in the less ordered amorphous regions of the granule are disrupted first, allowing water to associate with free hydroxyl groups. Swelling is the result and further opening of the granule structure to the action occurs. Melting of the crystalline fraction results in the complete disappearance of refringence, which is irreversible.

Option:

Expansion Control system (ECS) controls the bulk density of products also optimizing the product quality. The concept of the ECS is controlling the expansion in the extruder knife house while not affecting the product quality. Thereby, all wanted parameters can be used in the extruder. The most important parameter is product quality.  To control and manage the pressure, compressed air is added to the knife house. To make this possible an airlock is mounted under the knife house. The increased pressure in the blade seat results in reduced glare, thus increasing the bulk density by up to 25% and this function provides the device to produce fast sinking, slow sinking, shellfish as well as floating fish food.
